25-26 June we have visited IDate 2009 conference, which was held in Los Angeles, USA. PG Dating Pro was Dating Industry sponsor. The Conference was very successful for us! We managed to meet with potential clients and current partners: 2CheckOut, OPW, background check companies, Chat and IM application companies.
IDate had a wide range of professional speakers on payments, communication tools, monetizing techniques, marketing tips and tricks, matching technologies and new trends. You can see photos from the event here.
John Ploumitsakos from Google spoke about “Advanced Information on Trends and Search for the Online Dating Consumer”. He advised to check Google Trends for the information on your business idea before starting a site.
Patti Stanger from Millionaire's Club (professional matchmaker) was talking about marketing strategies and on how to get your show on television. It was a very interesting point of view. She mentioned the fact that you need to have a good agent to protect your TV show idea. Otherwise it might be stolen. You, as professional matchmaker, should also have your own site and running business to support your show.
Jumbuck, Messmo Media, Match.com discussed “3 Mobile Dating Strategies That Work”. Mobile is really everywhere. They showed the technologies they use in Mobile sphere: Mobile alerts, SMS payments, chats and mobile applications for the Internet sites.
Mike Baldock from Courtland Brooks covered different providers for Video Chat and IM for the industry. He mentioned Toksta, Ekko, Flashcoms. Then there was a discussion on what has happened to Userplane and why. Userplane representatives were in a room to assure everyone that they are still in business. Many providers did not trust them though. By that time, many popular site owners have pulled their chats from sites already. It was evident that at this point of time other competitors will try to get into the market…
As we can see, they have all technology to satisfy the needs of Dating and Social Networking industry representatives. We personally see FlashComs, 123FlashChat and Toksta as strong competitors. They can be good add-ons for our customers and we'll do our best to apply new trends we learned in our Dating software.

Checking Google Trends is all well and good, but I don't think people should be discouraged if interest in their idea doesn't seem to be registering. I mean, part of being creative is coming up with original ideas, right? And if they're original the demand doesn't EXIST for them yet--you have to manufacture it. And if late-night infomercial television has taught us anything it's that demand for just about ANYTHING can be manufactured if you make enough of an effort.

Sure I agree. There are so many things and trends for which the demand was artificially created! But Trends show you at least slight interest and location worldwide. That helps!
