Find love in Social Networks! Or how the view on networking online have changed!12:42:45 by Julia Dorofeeva Categories: Dating Articles With the evolution of Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites, people have given up on the bar scene and have turned to cyber space to find true love. Think it's uncommon for people to meet through the Internet? Think again. According to Forrester Research Inc, the online dating industry earned $957 million in 2008 alone, making it the third highest revenue grossing industry. And it's not just divorcés and 40-somethings who are turning to the Internet. Growing populations of college kids are giving it a shot. After her sister found love online, senior Robin Dixon decided to try it out, so she set up a personal account on Yahoo! Personals and Craig's List. "It's a good way to meet people if you're not into the bar scene," she said. "A lot of guys you meet out at a bar aren't looking for a relationship." She recommends Craig's List because it's easy to use, free and is frequented by a younger crowd. "You post an ad, and people respond to it through email. If you think they seem cool, you can email them back If not, you can just delete them. It's pretty easy, actually," Dixon said. "I met a few cool guys on there, which was nice." About six months after she posted her ad, she met her boyfriend and has been dating him for about two months now. "My friends thought I was crazy, but they were impressed when I met my boyfriend through Craig's List," she said. "It's a great way to meet people. Without the Internet, I probably wouldn't have met my boyfriend." Senior Adam Deutsch turned to online dating because he found it was difficult to meet people as a commuter. "Because I don't live on campus, I don't have a constant pool of people surrounding me to meet so I've got to go out and actually meet new people which, in this city, is very difficult because it is so incredibly cliquey. You really have to wow a girl with charm, boldness and cleverness to get them to open up to you here," Deutsch said. "The reason I decided to try the online thing was simply to open up other avenues to meet people and like-minded girls who are looking for a relationship." Deutsch used plentyoffish.com and while he met a few girls, the relationships only went as far as friendship. He hasn't found love yet, but he still thinks it's a great way to get to know people. "You can get to see what the girl is like just by reading what they say about themselves. This saves you time and you can qualify who you like quickly and who just wouldn't be for you as well," he said. Thinking about trying online dating? Dixon has an important tip to keep in mind. "Be careful about who you meet, don't do it right away. Bring a friend with you every time you meet someone, because you never know. The person who sends you the picture may not be that person." Every kind of way to find your partner have it's advantages and disadvantages. Online dating is quick but sometimes dangerous if you got the wrong person. But before the internet there was phone pal or pen pal whom you really don't know or see the person but most of the time it works.

Online dating and socializing is a fun way to meet people. I have met alot of great people thru chats, IM, e-mail. You can talk to anyone from your own back yard to the other side of the world. Granted it can be dangerous if you do not follow the rules, but so is conventional dating. I wont meet someone within the first week of chatting. And never meet anyone alone...always bring a friend and meet in a public place. Stick to those little rules and you should stay safe. There are more pros to online dating and socializing than there are cons. It is so much fun. You should try it.

Thank you for your comments!
I agree that social networking is now going into dating sphere and mixed sites are more frequent.
But still dating strategies of monetizing sites are winning in the market!

In Australia it's all about FaceBook at the moment. MySpace is dead. Twitter is definitely growing in popularity. But IMO FaceBook (nor the othes) is not the place to meet someone. It's more about extending our social networks.
There's plenty of daing sites and they're the place to go when trying meet someone. With the dating sites you can specifigly narrow down your search to a particular person in a defined location. Makes it so much easier.

For me : one of the great romantic date ideas is to spend it out with nature. Go on a picnic trip in a secluded area with a great view. Or a candle lit dinner in your own backyard, patio or terrace. Use the stars as your backdrop and the candles to create intimacy.

As a Singles Coach, I often teach singles how to use social network sites to attract the right person and career opportunity. They find that it is a more relaxed setting where people aren't just trying to meet as many people as possible. The other benefit is that it is free. Using the right strategy social network communities offer many potential benefits that the business world has already embraced.

I love hearing success stories like these. I think that integrating both social networking and online dating gives singles the option of taking things at their own pace.
