Dating website sees rise in virtual dates amid coronavirus pandemic

Match revealed that their UK audience is now more engaged in virtual dates, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Match saw a third of their users already agreed to have a virtual date through video calls.

Adhering to government advice to remain at home, singles are spending around seven hours a week using dating websites

Match’s dating expert Hayley Quinn believes the shift in behavior is a good thing, explaining: “Whilst in the past people may have found themselves not dedicating enough time to their love lives or coming to hard and fast decisions about who they want to date, we’re going to witness some big changes in people’s dating behaviors.

“Not being able to physically meet means that people’s desire for human connection will increase. Apart from a surge in online dating, I expect to see longer courtship periods, more time invested in getting to know people and better decisions being made about potential partners!”

The Meet Group rolls out livestreaming solution in its gay dating app, GROWLr.

“In today’s climate, livestreaming allows people to feel connected while maintaining proper dating distance,” said Geoff Cook, CEO. “Since the outbreak, we’ve seen explosive, overnight growth of our other live video platforms, MeetMe, LOVOO, Skout and Tagged. In the last week, we saw a 33% increase in time spent in video and a 38% increase in video chats per day compared to the week before COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization.”
