Facebook to launch ‘virtual dating’ over Messenger for Facebook Dating users

For people locked down during the pandemic, Facebook plans to introduce a video dating features in the Messenger, available for all Facebook Dating users.

The feature is still in early development, so there are no proper details about how it works.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained in a statement: “You’ll also be able to discover rooms your friends are in at the top of News Feed, and it’s easy to drop by and say hi. You don’t need to schedule time to hang out like other video conferencing tools. We’re testing Rooms in a few countries now and plan to roll it out globally over the coming weeks.”

‘Romance is back’: OkCupid CMO on dating app’s explosive growth amid isolation

OkCupid says that they see more user activity this month, comparing to one in February.

Their survey showed that 90% of 70,000 OkCupid users use virtuality to hang out today. And half of them use text messaging to communicate, following by video and audio calls.

“What I’m hearing from women is that romance is back,” said CMO of OkCupid, Melissa Hobley. “They can’t hook up so the guys are putting in some effort. ”
