The database of the popular Japanese application Omiai, owned by Net Marketing Co Ltd, has been hacked. The privacy of 1,700,000 users was at risk.

There is an assumption that cybercriminals may have gotten to their customers’ payment details. The company’s shares fell by 19%. The extent of the damage caused and the possible consequences are being investigated.

Management intends to strengthen security measures, implement improved password encryption technology and restore user confidence.
