Microsoft, The Meet Group partner on ‘grooming detection technique’ for messaging apps

Microsoft and The Meet Group partnered for a new initiative called “Project Artemis” that tries to create a ‘grooming detection technique’ .

The technique works with text-based conversations by scanning, evaluating and rating whether the conversation includes harassing, threatening or other forbidden by law activities.

This information will be then sent to human moderators to identify whether there is a real threat and, in case there is one, to contact law enforcement.

Grindr and OkCupid spread personal details, study says

A Norwegian government agency, Norwegian Consumer Council, published a report on how some of the dating platforms share users’ information with marketing agencies.

The agency analyzed android versions of OkCupid, Tinder, and Grindr.

The results showed that:

  • Grindr shares user location with 10+ agencies;
  • OkCupid shares what users answered on their in-app questionnaire with 300+ marketing partners;
  • Tinder shares users’ gender and sexual preferences.

The State of Mobile in 2020: online dating users spent $2.2B in 2019

Popular app market analytics platform App Annie has published its yearly State of Mobile report.

According to the report, dating apps users spent around $2.2 billion in 2019, twice as much comparing to user spends 2017.

Tinder occupied the first place, then Tantan and Hily, the biggest breakout social apps with 70,000% and 1,100% growth respectively.
